ERDF calls for bids for second wave of Linky smart meter

17-Nov-2015 07:09:01

On 1 December 2015, the French electricity distributor ERDF will begin the installation of the first wave of 3 million Linky smart meters in France. Landis+Gyr is one of six companies producing the Linky smart meter. By the end of 2021, some 35 million meters will be installed, a project that will cost EUR 5bn in total.

Over the 2014-2034 period, savings from remote readings (EUR 1.7bn) and the expected reduction of fraudulent volumes by a third (EUR 1.9bn) should finance the investment. The meters should enable an energy consumption reduction of between 1% and 3%.

The call for bids for the second wave of production, for a maximum of 13.8mn meters, has just been launched. ERDF is to launch 300 installation contracts, while 11 logistics platforms are to be created in France. ERDF also needs to plan for the recycling of the current meters.
