Managed Services: the Smartest Way to Manage the Smart Grid

How can utilities save investments in own infrastructure and instead have experienced experts managing and operating their advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and applications? Landis+Gyr offers a modular, cost-efficient and flexible service solution selection enabling utilities to choose the right modules to operate their smart infrastructure as reliably and efficiently as possible.

Software as a Service (SaaS) frees utilities from having to worry about IT platform
investments and software management, including security updates – while Metering as a Service (MaaS) includes partial or full outsourcing of AMI operations and can include also field operations. With more than 15 million metering points under service contracts worldwide, Managed Services is a core competence of Landis+Gyr as an experienced service provider.

Meeting the Demands of a Changing Environment

Regulatory compliance, increasing demands for data security and privacy and the opportunities provided by new technologies, like IoT, require a utility’s focus on optimizing the way to manage its business operations. A key decision is whether to operate an AMI solution fully on its own, or to involve an experienced partner. Depending on an energy utility’s preferences, Landis+Gyr’s service scope ranges from support for daily operations to a fully managed Smart Grid and IoT operating service.

Additional 750,000 Smart Metering Points in Finland

As of April 1, 2019, the meter reading service operations for 750,000 metering points in Finland will return to Landis+Gyr’s operations. Currently provided by a partner, these operations cover hourly consumption and power quality readings from residential and industrial electricity, gas and heat meters of around 30 Finnish utility customers. Landis+Gyr’s service platform allows a variety of functionalities, including management of on-demand-readings, power connection and disconnection, and meter status queries from customers internal systems.

“At Landis+Gyr, we respond to the globally increasing demand of Managed Services by continuously strengthening our service business.”

Ralph Griewing, SVP, Head of Energy Solutions, Landis+Gyr EMEA
