Landis+Gyr has a long tradition of collaboration with universities and educational organizations. Around EMEA, various Landis+Gyr sites work with students and researchers on a daily basis, on a variety of projects that support both academic and business objectives. The depth of collaboration varies from providing student placements to strategic, long-term research projects.
President and CEO of Landis+Gyr, Andreas Umbach was recently interviewed as one of the eleven most influential people in the European smart grid sector in “The Global Smart Energy Elites: Projects and People”, a publication issued by Metering & Smart Energy International. In shortened excerpts from the interview below, Andreas discusses industry growth opportunities, challenges, and future trends. The full interview is available here.
”. . .the most ambitious European project since the formation of the coal and steel community.”1 Energy Union for Europe, launched in February of this year, is a new EU initiative aimed at formulating an integrated European energy strategy that covers security and diversification of supply, energy efficiency, decarbonization (renewables), innovation and the internal energy market. The announcement on 25 February 2015 laid out the vision and goals of future EU energy policy as well as a list of 15 action points; translating those visions and goals into actual policy still has to come in the form of concrete initiatives, both legislative proposals and non-legislative policy documents, with two sets of measures per year, a winter and a summer package.
In its 2015 ‘definitive guide to the people driving Europe’s smart grid development’, the editorial board of industry magazine Metering & Smart Energy International named Landis+Gyr CEO, Andreas Umbach, as one of 50 most influential people in Europe’s smart grid industry, and in fact identified him as one of their top 10!
According to the magazine, the individuals on the list are the movers and shakers in Europe’s smart grid sector.
The conference, held on March 20 in Oslo, focused on the e-smart opportunities that come along with the introduction of electronic/smart electricity metering by 2019, as required by Norwegian legislation. Micro-generation, changing consumption patterns and in Norway especially EV charging, will set new challenges to the grid.
