Case Study - Enexis: Distribution Automation in Action

In 2010 Enexis, one of the largest distribution network operators (DNOs) in the Netherlands sought expert advice from PowerSense, now Landis+Gyr, about how to improve operational efficiency across their power grid. To achieve this goal, Enexis set the initial target of enhancing the quality of power distribution by reducing the system average interruption duration index (SAIDI) from 87 minutes to 5 minutes per customer, for customers supplied by automated medium and low-voltage networks. It was expected that the system average interruption frequency index (SAIFI) would also be reduced, but no specific goal was set with regards to this metric.
