It was only last year when Landis+Gyr was awarded an AMI service contract for Finland’s largest distribution system operator, Caruna Oy. The comprehensive “Metering as a Service” solution is now up and running and comprises not less than the full take-over of Caruna’s complete AMI infrastructure in the Nordic region’s largest Managed Services project to date.
17,000,000 metering values
Landis+Gyr’s Managed Service includes full smart metering operative responsibility for Caruna, collecting and managing hourly consumption and power quality readings from all 660,000 residential meters. Through Landis+Gyr’s service platform, more than 17 million validated metering values are provided and fed into Caruna’s billing system every day.
The scope of service also covers management of Caruna’s device infrastructure and data communications, as well as activation of field work operations. The integrated platform allows a variety of functionalities, including management of demand-readings, power connection and disconnection, and meter status queries from their internal systems.
Smooth and timely Transition
Caruna was especially pleased to witness a smooth transition of their existing smart metering infrastructure into Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream AIM service platform – as highlighted in this video interview with Tommi Pyhähuhta, Head of Metering Services at Caruna, who has been leading the transformation project on the part of Caruna.

“We were looking for a transparent, cost-efficient solution from an experienced partner. Landis+Gyr was able to take over the service operations smoothly and according to plan without any interruptions in our operations or customer service.”
Katriina Kalavainen, Head of Customer Relations at Caruna Oy
“Landis+Gyr has been a leading AMI service provider in Finland since 2002 and is proud to work with Caruna, a pioneer in smart meter deployment. With more than 15 million metering points under service contracts worldwide, we are delighted to extend our footprint in the service business and take over the daily operation of Caruna’s AMI solution.”
